1. Your VolunteerNet account

How do I add a photo of myself?

Click the 'Edit' tab on My account, and click the ‘Choose file’ option under Picture. You can then upload a photo from your computer.

How do I edit my personal details?

Click the 'Edit' tab on My account, add your location, links to your Flickr stream and other relevant sites, and any other information you wish to share as a Sustrans volunteer into the ‘About me’ section.

How do I change my email address?

You cannot change your email address, as it links to the email we have on file for you. You will need to contact us on and we will update it here and on your file.

Who can see my contact details?

Just you and the website administrator. You can edit your contact details at any time from the My account section.

Please note that your VolunteerNet account isn't connected to our volunteer database, so let us know if your name or email address changes on and we'll update it there too.

How do I change my password? 

Click the 'Edit' tab on My account, and enter your new password

My groups aren’t right

Ooops! We're sorry about that. Contact us on and we’ll sort it out.

Why does my name have a number after it?

Your username is your name and surname. In the case of more than one volunteer with the same name, a number is added to differentiate. You can change this by amending your first name or surname in My account.

How do I change my username?

Visit My account to amend your first name or surname, these two make up your username.

2. Recording your activities

How do I record my activities?

Visit the Record your activity page and follow the steps outlined. There is a video to show you how to record your activities, and we also have guidance in the resources section on VolunteerNet.

Why should I record my activities?

Letting us know about the activities you have carried out for us helps us to improve the support we give you, promote the amazing things all our volunteers do and lets us report back to our funders and seek new funding opportunities. So please, whenever you spend time volunteering for Sustrans we would like you to record it.

How do I view my recorded activities?

To view an activity that you have recorded or that has been recorded on your behalf by another volunteer or staff supervisor, head to your account page. Each time you submit the form you should receive an email with a link to a summary of the activity on VolunteerNet. If you aren’t receiving emails of your submissions please let us know and we’ll investigate it -

I can’t access the activity recording form online

You may need to update your internet browser. If this is not the problem, please contact us.

There is an issue with the form. Who should I contact?

If you notice an issue with the form, please email and let us know what the problem is. If you can also send a screenshot of the issue, that will help us to investigate the problem and find a solution.

Why can’t I report a maintenance problem on this form?

These forms are designed to collect information about volunteer activity and are monitored less frequently than other forms. To report route defects please contact your staff supervisor or local Network Development team.

How do I find guidance relating to my specific volunteer activity or project?

We have pages for some of our most popular volunteer roles. These pages can be found under the 'Useful Resources' section in the top white menu bar, next to 'New volunteers'.

These pages bring together all of the information, guidance, tips and resources you need to safely carry out that role.

How do I find a document or resource?

Visit our Resources directory where you can use the purple search box or browse through a list of all of our resources.

Please note, you can search for words in document titles and descriptions, but not within the documents themselves.

You can find contact details for our volunteer co-ordinator and other key volunteers staff in theContact us section.
